Fresh from his recent visit to Belfast before the New Year, Verne Troyer returns home to Los Angeles. Troyer was in Belfast through December co-starring as Archimedes in “Keith Lemon: The Film”, expected to be released in the UK August of 2012. The movie marks Lionsgate UK’s first comedy and comedian Leigh Francis’ (aka Keith Lemon) first feature length film. The film follows Lemon from Leeds to London in his quest for celebrity and happiness and is directed by Paul Angunawela, produced by Mark Huffam (Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Mamma Mia!, Johnny English), Simon Bosanquet (Life and Death of Peter Sellers, Whole Lotta Sole) and Aidan Elliott for Belfast-based Generator Entertainment.
Francis’ new film does not mark the first collaboration between himself and Troyer. Before “Keith Lemon: The Film”, Troyer’s first associated with Francis was in “Avid Merrion’s Xmas Special” in 2005, followed by “Bo! In the USA” in 2006. When Francis’ UK TV show Celebrity Juice, an entertainment show including a pop culture quiz where Francis acts as Keith Lemon, he again called on Troyer to appear as a guest. Since then, Troyer became a regular guest on Francis’ show and in 2011, Celebrity Juice was awarded a TV Choice Award as Best Entertainment Show and recently concluded its sixth season in December.
While maintaining a busy shooting schedule in Belfast, Troyer found time to absorb all the sights, sounds, and culture that the Irish city had to offer. Teaming up with gotobelfast.com and the Belfast tourism department, Troyer made a Belfast tourism video: http://youtu.be/0uWHtAANKLU.
Combining Troyer’s passion for philanthropy and his love of sports, he took a break from filming to team up with the Compass Advocacy Network (CAN) as a Best Buddies ambassador and arranged a bowling session meet and greet with local Belfast children. CAN is a Northern Ireland charity that provides work opportunities and activities for children with learning disabilities. Best Buddies is a Massachusetts based non-profit organization whose mission is to create “one to one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.” (bestbuddies.org) Troyer spent time with each of the children and inspired them with his accomplishments. http://thebelfasttimes.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/20111219-085715.jpg.
